MSME / Udyam Registration: Benefits, Process & 2026 Updates
Udyam registration is the government's recognition system for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). It is free, entirely online, and self-declaration based — yet it unlocks meaningful financial and legal advantages.
Revised MSME Classification
Enterprises are classified on a combined investment in plant & machinery and annual turnover basis:
- Micro: Investment up to ₹2.5 crore and turnover up to ₹10 crore.
- Small: Investment up to ₹25 crore and turnover up to ₹100 crore.
- Medium: Investment up to ₹125 crore and turnover up to ₹500 crore.
Key Benefits
- Collateral-free loans under the CGTMSE scheme.
- Priority-sector lending and lower interest rates from banks.
- Protection against delayed payments — buyers must pay MSMEs within 45 days or face interest under the MSMED Act.
- Subsidies on patents, trademarks, ISO certification, and electricity.
- Preference in government tenders and public procurement.
The Udyam Registration Process
- Step 1: Visit the Udyam Registration portal and enter the Aadhaar of the proprietor, partner, or authorised signatory.
- Step 2: Provide the PAN and GSTIN — details are auto-verified with government databases.
- Step 3: Fill in investment and turnover details and submit.
- Step 4: Receive the Udyam Registration Number and e-certificate instantly.
Important 2026 Notes
PAN and GST linkage is now mandatory, and existing registrations migrate automatically each year from filed returns — so there is no need to renew, but your ITR and GST filings must be up to date for the classification to stay accurate.
Statura assists with MSME/Udyam registration, GST, and the wider compliance stack that keeps your classification valid.
