Customs Clearance & ICEGATE for Korean Importers: A Practical Guide
Every shipment arriving in India passes through customs via the ICEGATE electronic gateway. Understanding the flow helps Korean importers avoid demurrage, detention, and clearance delays.
The Clearance Flow
- Step 1 — Bill of Entry: Your customs broker files a Bill of Entry on ICEGATE with invoice, packing list, and HS codes.
- Step 2 — Assessment: Customs assesses the declared value and applicable duties.
- Step 3 — Duty payment: BCD, surcharge, and IGST are paid electronically.
- Step 4 — Examination: Goods may be examined; regulated items (cosmetics, food) are referred to CDSCO/FSSAI for NOC.
- Step 5 — Out of charge: Once cleared, goods are released for delivery.
Documents You Need Ready
- Commercial invoice and packing list.
- Bill of Lading / Airway Bill.
- IEC and GST details.
- CDSCO/FSSAI registration for regulated goods.
