FSSAI Import Registration for Korean Food Brands
To import any food product into India — including Korean snacks, sauces, and beverages — the Indian importer must hold an FSSAI Central Licence endorsed for imports. It is applied for on the FoSCoS portal.
Who Needs It?
The Indian importer (your subsidiary or appointed distributor) holds the licence — not the Korean manufacturer directly. It authorises them to import your products for sale in India.
Documents Required
- Constitution documents of the Indian importer (incorporation, partnership deed).
- IEC issued by the DGFT.
- Address proof of the business and warehouse.
- List of food products to be imported.
- Food safety management plan.
The FoSCoS Process
- Step 1: Register the importer on the FoSCoS portal.
- Step 2: File the Central Licence application selecting the Importer category.
- Step 3: Upload documents and pay the fee.
- Step 4: Respond to queries; the licence is issued (often 30–60 days).
Validity & Renewal
Licences are issued for 1–5 years and must be renewed before expiry. Central licence holders also file an annual return.
